How To Use Aluminum Spacers For Insulating Glass

Glass Cutting and Blanking: The raw glass-typically colorless float glass, tinted glass, solar-control glass, tempered glass, or laminated glass with a thickness of 3mm to 12mm-must comply with the "Grade 1" or "Premium Grade" specifications of the GB11614 standard and pass inspection before use.

 

Glass cutting may be performed manually or by machine, provided that dimensional requirements are met. During this process, workers must ensure the glass surface remains free of scratches and that the material is uniform, without obvious defects such as air bubbles or inclusions.

 

Glass Washing and Drying: Machine washing is mandatory, as manual cleaning cannot guarantee consistent quality. Before washing, the glass must be inspected for scratches; deionized water is recommended to ensure optimal adhesion between the sealant and the glass. To conserve water, the system may filter and recirculate the water for long-term use. After washing, the glass undergoes visual inspection under light to check for water droplets, water stains, or other contaminants. If any are found, parameters such as machine speed, heating temperature, airflow, and brush clearance must be adjusted until the desired cleaning quality is achieved.

 

Washed glass should be assembled into insulating glass units (IGUs) within one hour. Precautions must be taken to prevent friction or scratching between glass panes; ideally, semi-finished glass storage carts with separators should be used to keep the panes apart.

 

Assembly of Spacer-Tape and Aluminum-Spacer Insulating Glass: For spacer-tape insulating glass, the ideal processing temperature is 10–20°C in winter and 20–30°C in summer. Regarding humidity: since the desiccant in spacer-tape units is powdered and reacts more slowly after being mixed with the adhesive, the assembly area should maintain relatively low humidity.

 

Insulating glass units feature a dual-seal system (single-seal units produced by small workshops are not discussed here). For the inner seal, butyl sealant is applied to the edges of the spacer strip using an applicator machine, bonding the two panes of glass together via the spacer.
